People will have the NBA GOAT debate until the end of time.

There is never going to be an objectively right answer, obviously, but fans will continue to discuss it.

Speaking with Wy Network, former NBA superstar Dwyane Wade talked about who is the greatest of all time, and he said that winning rings is different than being a great player.

“Winning a ring, it’s a whole different game than being a great player and having stats…I can have more stats if I didn’t care about winning a ring,” Wade said, per ClutchPoints.

He compared basketball greatness to a hotel, saying that some people have “access keys” that allow them to get to a higher floor than others.

There are certain players who are still “cold” and talented, but they simply cannot achieve what their competitors can.

A lot of fans judge the success of an NBA player based on how many championship rings they have won.

But Wade said there is more to it than that, and that earning a lot of rings may not signify how great someone is.

Wade’s nuanced take is refreshing because this is a conversation that is often lacking any subtlety.

People have their opinions, and they rarely change them.

In reality, greatness in the league needs to be decided by more than just how many titles someone has.

Although great players have rings, some don’t, and some who do aren’t always amazing.

Wade said that fans need to consider a lot more than accomplishments and statistics when they are talking about who is the GOAT.
