The NBA world was shocked when it was announced that Memphis Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins had been fired last week.

The Grizzlies have their fair share of troubles but it was still surprising to see him let go, especially so close to the playoffs.

Now, some inside reporting from behind the scenes reveals that the team’s biggest star, Ja Morant, isn’t very happy with his role in the lineup.

“This season, Morant is averaging career lows in touches, average touch length and dribbles per touch this season. Morant’s 22.4 points per game is his lowest scoring average since 2020-21, his second season, and his field goal percentage (.448) is the worst of his career. That didn’t sit well with him, and he voiced his frustrations publicly and privately, sources said,” the report said, per NBACentral.

Jenkins was angling for a different approach to offense this season, one that didn’t rely on Morant as much.

One can understand why he was doing that considering Morant’s health.

As great as he is, he has a hard time staying on the court lately and injuries have become a real problem.

This season, he has only appeared in 45 games, averaging 22.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 7.4 assists.

But this change in plans didn’t sit well with Morant, and everyone knows he doesn’t hold back his opinions.

Therefore, he expressed what he was feeling and that may have had a big influence on what the front office did.

Even with his problems, Morant is still the most important player for the Grizzlies.

It’ll be interesting to see how much he touches the ball now that Jenkins is gone.

Will this solve the problems that were bothering him?

If not, there will be even larger questions about what’s next for him and his future with the team.
