The Boston Celtics beat the Sacramento Kings on Monday night, but at what cost?
Jayson Tatum injured his left ankle in the third quarter when he jumped and landed on big man Domantas Sabonis’ foot.
After rolling his ankle, Tatum was helped to the bench but then returned to the court to make his free throws.
Following the game, Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla spoke about Tatum and his ankle.
According to Bobby Krivitsky, Mazzulla seemed optimistic.
“I literally just asked him how he’s doing; he said, ‘ok.’ … I know he’ll do anything and everything to make sure he gets better,” Mazzulla said.
Mazzulla when asked about the possibility of Jayson Tatum missing games due to tonight’s left ankle sprain:
“I literally just asked him how he’s doing; he said, ‘ok.’ … I know he’ll do anything and everything to make sure he gets better.”

It doesn’t look like this is a serious injury, which is obviously great news for Tatum and his team.
According to reporting from the game, he didn’t leave the arena wearing a boot or using crutches, so there is a chance that he doesn’t miss any time at all.
Of course, if he is hurt, now is the time for Tatum to get some rest.
The postseason is right around the corner, and the Celtics have a chance to be a huge part of it.
They are the second seed in the East and hold a 53-19 record.
They are just 4.5 games behind the Cleveland Cavaliers and have won six games in a row.
Is there a chance of them overtaking the Cavaliers in the standings after Cleveland has sat in the top spot all season long?
Right now, it doesn’t seem far-fetched, and that would be a major accomplishment for the reigning champions.
Of course, being second place isn’t bad at all, and the Celtics are still one of the most feared teams in their conference.
If Tatum needs some time to nurse his ankle before the long and grueling playoffs, he should do it now before his team needs him for every single game.
